On Thursday, March 4th Oklahoma City’s own Houston Boy released his first EP titled ‘So Ambitious’. The turn out of the show was good, there were a lot of people including rappers and producers who came out in support of Oklahoma Hip-Hop. The album was produced by Ronnie Harris of the Puzzle People. FLY or DIE…
I was listening to MGMT earlier and one of their songs was talking about the youth changing. This made me think of what I used to do when I was a little kid. I was really into action figures for a long time and was thinking about how kids these days are stuck in this new digital world. My generation will be the last to ever sit around all day and play with plastic super heroes. Not saying that it’s gone forever, but with all these new video game consoles, where is the need to play with a plastic spiderman when you can play as spiderman in a video game?
Spiderman always had the best villains. They were always super scary and brutal looking. Carnage has to be one of my all time favorites!
Who can forget about the Ninja Turtles? Raphael and Donatello are somewhere around the house, I couldn’t find them. The big samurai turtle in the back is from Ninja Turtles III, that was the one where they went back in time to feudal age Japan and kicked major butts. If you haven’t seen that one, I really recommend watching it! But back to what I was talking about…
I hope kids don’t lose their sense of imagination and creativity. Being able to sit around for hours playing with inanimate objects may sound crazy for an adult to do. But for a kid it enables them to create a whole new world that never existed. I’m afraid the younger generation will be zombies and stare at their TV’s playing their video games all day. DUN DUN DUN.
Mega Royal…Jabee…Objektiv One = HEAT ROCK!!! Here is another fresh installment by the homey Objektiv One. If you have not had the opportunity to get familiar with his beats, GET FAMILIAR!!!!! He is a certified “Beast On Beats.”
We are stoked to introduce our newest team member to GROUP FLY SKATE, Rocky Sheaffer. We have a deep passion for skateboarding at the core of our brand, so it was a no brainer to connect with one of OKC’s finest. Rocky has a relentless work ethic when it comes to skating. Not only is he a “Certified RIPPER”, but he is a humble and solid dude rooted deep in his faith. We feel we have a solid base to build an epic team with Dewayne McMurry and now Rocky. We have already started collecting footy for our very own skate video (details coming soon). I guess we will never stop…FLY OR DIE. Shouts out to the homey Trevor Vaughan for the ill pics!!!
I awoke this morning rather early trying to get some good design work in before the day got rollin. Something about the morning is just a lot more tranquil and my mind can think a lot more clearly. We have a lot of new exciting stuff coming out sooner then you think! This year is definitely going to be a huge year for us and we are really focusing on little details and ways to upgrade the quality of every aspect of our apparrell. Fashion right now is in a very interesting position, we are seeing a lot of it being recycled and old styles being brought back up to the forefront of streetwear. I’m very excited to see the growth of the brand and the reaction to our loyal customers when they see what we’ve been cooking up. Speaking of cooking up… I got a little hungry after a few hours of design…
Mmmmm, fettuccine alfredo with a hint of sun-dried tomatoes and some Smoked Italian Sausage! Just a little something I learned last year when I was back in Italy studying to be a chef in a five-star restaurant. Ok i’m lying.
Meet Brandon Bales, a local talent that is a must know. Bales is a photographer that is making a name of himself through the music scene of Oklahoma. He’s had his works in Face and Rckstr Magazine. I’ve personally known Brandon for a few years now and has seen his business grow a lot from what it used to be. It’s great seeing good people do amazing things. Not only has he worked with us on a lot of hip/hop events (Lush Life / Fall Ball), he’s a staple to the underground electro scene in Oklahoma. Now Brandon is traveling all over the U.S. taking pictures at shows and crazy parties. Here’s some of his pics:

I have no idea what this is but it’s dope!
It seems these days everyone is a photographer or something of the sort. What sets Brandon apart from all these other people out there is his personality and love for his craft. Anyone can pick up a camera and call themselves a photographer, but what’s the use if there’s no love and dedication behind it? This guy has a very good head on his shoulders and us at Grp Fly wish him the best of luck!
If you need any photography done by Brandon contact him on his site!
